Inspiring the future leaders in healthcare
Linked Medical is an organization aiming to inspire the healthcare workers of tomorrow by helping high school students gain medical knowledge. Through Linked Medical's partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation, members are offered the chance to attend seizure recognition training and gain their certification (members are also offered the chance to get AED, first aid, and CPR certified). Furthermore, with the help of Sage Hill School's science department, Linked Medical members are able to practice dissecting various organisms, suture techniques, and more activities closely related to labs one might attend in medical school. Besides the opportunities offered to students in-school, members of Linked Medical volunteer at local hospitals to learn more about hospital life and gain exposure to the medical field.
Jenna Adham first got the idea for Linked Medical in August 2021 when she went to visit her family across the world. Only fifteen years old at the time, Jenna noticed a lack of proper medical care when visiting the underprivileged areas of Cairo, Egypt. As a young girl, she had always had a love for the medical field that her parents were quick to foster; therefore, when she learned about this pressing issue that could have negative effects on the people she loved, Jenna decided to make it her responsibility to connect well-equipped hospitals with clinics in impoverished areas. After she turned sixteen, Jenna knew she had to act for change and use her voice to make a difference. She founded the Linked Medical organization with her friend, Yasmin Dennis, in her junior year of high school at Sage Hill school and began working with the resources she had to provide medical opportunities for other high school students who, like herself, wanted to pursue a career in healthcare.
Yasmin Dennis has been passionate about medicine since a young age, growing up in her mom’s dental practice. She loves helping others and joined Jenna in the establishment of Linked Medical at Sage Hill to materialize this passion. Yasmin hopes to pursue the field of pediatrics, as she has always enjoyed caring for her younger sister and cousin. Furthermore, Yasmin hopes to create a supportive and informative atmosphere at Sage Hill, which she and Jenna hope to expand to other schools in the near future. Linked Medical is very important to Yasmin, as she wants to use the organization to advocate for increased awareness regarding all things medical.
Grace Kao manages Linked Medical at Sage Hill School in Newport Beach, California. Overseeing everything done within this branch of the organization, Grace is an essential part of the team. At only two and a half years old, Grace's younger brother, Gaby, was diagnosed with Epilepsy and Doose syndrome. Then at the beginning of 2020, Gaby was also diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome. "Exposure to the medical field at a young age," says Grace, "sparked [her] interest in neuroscience and psychology." Now as a seventeen-year-old, Grace aspires to help those in situations similar to her brother.
